The first issue with The Toll is that is skips around the timeline but it doesn’t indicate at which point each character is in, which becomes incredibly confusing. Sycthe Faraday, has buggered off to the Land of Nod for… reasons. Meanwhile, Goddard has destroyed Endura, killing numerous Scythes and leaving Rowan and Citra locked in a safe which is falling to the bottom of the ocean. It’s badly paced, there are too many new characters introduced, the existing characters are treated poorly and the ending was completely WTF.Īt the end of Thunderhead, the titular character has decided that the entire human race is unsavoury and cuts itself off from everyone other than Greyson Tolliver. The Toll pissed me off though, because I actually had expectations for it and not only did it fail to live up to those expectations, it wasn’t even on the same planet as them.
